What is Vyond?

 Hello again, folks! Here I offer you another digital tool great for your classes.

As an animation student, I know better than anyone that making an animated production is not easy in the slightest. Whether it´s long or short, animation is very time consuming and takes a lot of effort and skill. Many times I´ve wondered how could I incorporate my love for animation in my classes without stressing myself out and Vyond may be the answer.



What is Vyond?

Vyond (previously known as GoAnimate) is a platform where users can create their own dynamic video productions by using very simple animations, pictures, live-action videos and more. According to Vyond (2021), you can make use of the pre-fabricated options the app offers in order to make your videos (such as pre-made templates or presentations) or you can create something from scratch but in a very easy and eye-catching way, because it provides you with easy animations, transitions, charts and many other tools so as to save time and effort.

BENEFITS:

  • You can create great videos in a very easy way.
  • People will pay more attention to your presentations because videos are dynamic (Vyond, 2021).  
  • Excellent way to engage learners (Vyond, 2021). Students tend to get distracted easily, so a dynamic video can work wonders. Besides, as most students are technology natives, they will find the presentation more meaningful, fun and relevant.
  • Provides a better alternative to pre-produced videos because the teacher can adapt them in order to suit students’ needs.
  • Creative way to “enhance existing content” (Vyond, 2021).  Sometimes the digital material a teacher has may be dull and unexciting in appearance, but have interesting content. So if you have a video that you want to enrich, this website is the answer.
  • It has many interesting option that other easy video editors lack, such as object and character animation, an automatic lip-sync tool, the option to add your own digital material, etc. (Ortíz, 2018)
  • You get a free trial to explore the page for 14 days.
  • Allows you to explore your creativity. The site offers many styles to choose from in order to create your videos.
  • There is a quick and useful tutorial when you first use it. 

DRAWBACKS:

  • After the free trial, you have to pay (and it´s rather expensive)
  • Free trial has locked functions, such as sharing your work, downloading it or being able to remove the watermark.

Easy Video maker, but also slightly limited on features. Videos are easy to create; the movement portion is easy to use. Some specific items that I needed were just not available, such as very specific images or certain backgrounds, or some backgrounds you can't change. (Gina V,2018)


In my opinion, the cost is a little high compared to other tools on the market. Even though there is a wide selection of templates, I think they could have more templates and scenes to piece together for common marketing videos. I find that a ton of the animation/characters used are used in many online videos - so having more "styles" to choose from would definitely be a plus. Many of the competitors also offer stock videos and photography, so that would also be helpful and make the creation process faster (instead of uploading our own). (Keyla S, 2021)
